Recharged Radio nominate Jo for 4 awards-vote now

Recharged Radio has announced the shortlist for the 2010 Recharged Awards. The internet station, which gathers thousands of listeners every week and champions 'breakthrough' and independent artists, based in Brick Lane, London, has nominated Jo for four awards in total including Best Female, Best Single (for Pick Me Up), Best Album and Best Folk Act.

The award ceremony will take place mid-April, providing a healthy and refreshing alternative to The Brits, and a chance for the DJs and producers to celebrate the success of the station, which received record listening figures last year for its variety of shows. The winners of each category will be voted for by the public; it takes less than a minute to join in the poll, and is completely anonymous, so you know what comes next...VOTE NOW!!!! Birmingham Mail highlights Jo's LA salute

The Birmingham Mail featured a great little article about Jo today, thanks to her LA nod from Nic Harcourt. Despite being based in LA for over a decade, Harcourt is originally from Birmingham and has consistently championed and helped 'break' new acts in America through both his KCRW radio shows and his work as a writer for the LA Times Culture Magazine.

LA Times Magazine features Gown

We are pleased to announce that Jo is continuing to get transatlantic recognition, with the LA Times Magazine featuring Gown this month, wedged in a recommendations section of a great article and interview with Ennio Morricone.

Gown is being described as "a stunning debut that offers hints of Peter Gabriel and Bjork. It'll surely make a top-10 list or two by year's end" in this article, and is also featued on LA's flagship radio station KCRW, where it is receiving great feedback. DJ, writer and 'tastemaker' Nic Harcourt is mentioning Jo regularly on his weekend show. Have a listen at 6-9pm PST/2am-5am GMT every Saturday.

LA radio station KCRW championing Jo

Gown has been chosen by Nic Harcourt to represent world-famous star-picking radio station KCRW in Los Angeles, as part of his '4-pack' of albums for this year.

“I think [Gown] will make a lot of Top Ten lists by year's end.” - Nic Harcourt

Regarded by many as the ultimate music tastemaker, Harcourt - who is ironically originally from Birmingham, England where Jo is based - is credited with having helped launch the careers of Coldplay, Damien Rice and Beck by championing them on KCRW and on his syndicated shows - so this is quite an honour.

KCRW will be promoting Gown from January 29th for 10 days. Nic will be particularly playing Jo's music heavily on his Sunday-night shows (6-9pm PST/2am-5am GMT). You can listen to a live stream from KCRW here.

New Jersey blogger Oliver Di Place features Gown

Although Gown is still yet to be officially released in the States, it is nevertheless steadily gaining American fans, through the support of early champions like KCRW's Nic Harcourt in LA and general word of mouth amongst online fans. The latest advocate comes in the form of a New Jersey blog-site, Oliver Di Place, which salutes Jo for her individuality.

New Jersey blog, Oliver Di Place features a review of Gown this month, with writer Darius Ripps giving Jo a thumbs-up despite this album being "not (his) usual fare by any means".

Jo featured in Radio 2's 'Albums of the Week'

Radio 2 have just announced that Jo's bonus winter CD has been featured on their albums of the week, in a list which includes the new releases from Tori Amos and Norah Jones.

The trio of winter songs, features tracks which Jo recorded for US television earlier this year, and are available from this link. This exclusive CD comes with two Gown albums to give as stocking fillers and a hand made card by Jo. You can buy this special bundle for £15.

You can hear tracks from the CD, on the Janice Long show on BBC WM, as well as a chat about all things Christmassy on this link. Jo's interview is about 1hr 20mins into the session.

Jo Performs at Paul Kramer's Hitsheet BMI Showcase

The Cobden Club, Camden, played host to a wonderful evening of music last Wednesday for the November edition of Paul Kramer's HIt Sheet showcase, in association with BMI.

The monthly event features both established and 'up and coming' artists alike, offering a mix of styles in a format not unlike that of Jools Holland's BBC2 programme.

Paul Kramer presented a great line up of mostly vocalists this month, including BBC2's Young Folk Musician of the Year 2008 Megan Henwood, Elsa Chapman and Leddra Chapman.

There was also an off the cuff performance from Madagascan songwriter Modeste. Jo Hamilton was introduced by Janice Long, who popped by to see the gig before doing her nightly show on BBC Radio 2. Jo performs for Sally on Saturday at BBC Solent

Jo did an acoustic set for BBC Solent's flagship morning show, Sally on Saturday, this weekend, showcasing some tracks from the album. Jo did a solo acoustic set, featuring All in Adoration and Think of Me, and the show declared Saturday "Jo Hamilton Day'.
